The Kotilingeshwara temple is another sacred site for Hindus – it is home to one of the largest Shiva-lingams in the world.
Drive up Nandi Hills
An aimless Sunday drive to the summit of Nandi Hills can help rejuvenate tired minds before the new week begins. Many travellers enjoy the 60-km route as buildings give way to open countryside. There is a wine-growing area at the foot of the ascent. The curving roads lead to the top of Nandi Hills which is more than 1500 metres above sea level and reward visitors with mesmerizing views of the surrounding plateau.
Explore Ramanagara
Fans of the movie Sholay will recognize Ramanagara’s rocky landscape. It was in these craggy, inhospitable looking wildernesses that the fictional villain Gabbar Singh reigned in terror. Today Ramanagara is a hub for adventure sports like rock climbing and rappelling and there are many hiking trails here. Its unique terrain is home to many animals and birds. The long-billed vulture is found in these ranges. One can drive around the district and observe the distinctive rocky hills jutting out, surrounded by green plantations. It is also an area known for silk production.
