18 Bangladeshi Infiltrators Apprehended For Residing Illegally In Thane

According to the police, an offence was registered against them under the Foreigners Act of 1946 and the Passport (Entry into India) Rules of 1950

MAHARASHTRA: Over 18 Bangladeshis, including 10 women, were detained by the Maharashtra Police on March 4 for staying unlawfully in the Thane region of Maharashtra.

The police detained the Bangladeshi citizens after receiving information that they would congregate at a building in Navi Mumbai's Ghansoli neighbourhood to celebrate one of their wedding anniversaries.

"The police were tipped off that some Bangladeshi nationals would congregate to celebrate one of them's wedding anniversary at a building in Navi Mumbai's Ghansoli neighbourhood”, the Rabale police station official was cited as adding that the officials from the criminal division of the Navi Mumbai police conducted a night-time raid as a result of it.

He claims that on March 1 and 2, the Mumbai Police made the arrests.

The people living in the district illegally, had been there for a year and lacked valid identification like passports and visas.

According to the police, an offence was registered against them under the Foreigners Act of 1946 and the Passport (Entry into India) Rules of 1950, and an investigation is currently underway.

Importantly, this is the third instance of this nature to be reported in the previous week.

Similar events occurred in Tripura, where Rasel Ali, Abdul Litan, and Md. Asif, three Bangladeshi nationals, were detained on March 1 at the Agartala train station.

According to reports, the group arrived in Sidhai village in West Tripura over the Indo-Bangla border on Tuesday night after leaving Bangladesh's Rajshahi district and marching towards Kashmir.

The citizens of Bangladesh had boarded a train bound towards Kolkata. According to our information, they were planning to travel to Kashmir from Kolkata.

The investigating officer stated that each of them was presented in court and that further investigation is ongoing.

On February 28, along the international border between India and Bangladesh in the West Bengali district of Murshidabad, BSF personnel also detained two infiltrators from Bangladesh.

According to reports, while on duty in their region, the cops saw suspicious behaviour along the border and detained two Bangladeshi intruders named Mohd Sifat Ali (24) and Mohd Sariful (26) from District Rajshahi.
