SHIMLA: In a joint operation between the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and the McLeodganj police, 26 tourists who were stranded at Kareri Lake in the Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh were successfully rescued on Sunday night at 10 PM. The tourists had become trapped due to heavy rainfall, which caused flooding and made it impossible for them to cross the road between Kareri and Dharamshala. Fortunately, no casualties were reported from the incident, and all the tourists were brought safely to Dharamshala.

The Superintendent of Police (SP) of Kangra, Shalini Agnihotri, confirmed the rescue operation, stating that around 26 individuals were rescued from the Kareri Lake area. Similarly, another incident occurred in the Bhagsunag-Naddi trek region, where a few people were also rescued by the police. These incidents come shortly after a separate landslide incident between the Chatru and Dorno Nallah regions in the Lahaul and Spiti districts.

The Meteorological Department (MeT) has issued a yellow alert for heavy rain in the region for the next two days. Recent rainfall measurements in the area include 57 mm in Palampur, Kangra, 43.3 mm in Dharamshala, and 34 mm in Nagrota Suriyan. Despite the rainfall, there has been no significant change in temperatures.

The weather officials have predicted a wet spell in the state from June 19 to 22 and have cautioned people about the potential adverse weather conditions. They have advised residents to be prepared for poor visibility, traffic congestion, disruptions in electricity supply, and potential damage to crops, fruit plants, and young seedlings.

In light of the current weather conditions and future predictions, the authorities have issued advisories and guidelines to ensure the safety of citizens. It is important for residents to take adequate security measures and follow the recommended precautions during this period of inclement weather.

The joint rescue operation by the SDRF and the McLeodganj police successfully saved 26 tourists who were stranded at Kareri Lake due to heavy rainfall. The recent incidents of flooding and landslides highlight the need for vigilance and preparedness during severe weather events. Citizens are urged to stay updated on weather forecasts and follow the instructions provided by local authorities to ensure their safety.
