NEW DELHI: Three boys, including one minor, have been detained by the Delhi Police in connection with the Holi harassment incident.

The police said that after a video of a Japanese woman being abused by a bunch of guys went viral on social media under the pretence of dousing her in colour for Holi, they began looking for those boys.

"After careful investigation with the help of field police and local intelligence, the youngsters seen in the video have been identified. Three boys, one of whom is a minor, have been detained and questioned”, stated the police.

According to a statement from the Delhi Police, the youths have admitted to the occurrence or happening depicted in the video. The event happened in the Paharganj neighbourhood of Delhi, and the woman initially posted the footage on Twitter before having it removed.

She is currently in Bangladesh and is "fit in her mind and body," according to her most recent tweet. According to the statement, the woman has not filed a complaint with either the Japanese embassy or the Delhi Police. Action has been taken against people who have been detained under the Delhi Police Act.

The statement read, "Future legal action will be considered on its merits and in compliance with the girl's allegation if any."

Among those who responded to the video and labelled it "totally despicable behavior" were Bollywood actor Richa Chadha and the head of the Delhi Commission for Women, Swati Maliwal.

National Commission for Women chairman Rekha Sharma had already written to Delhi Police to "quickly register an FIR in the matter."

“Sickening, the woman is required to notify NCW," Khushbu Sundar, a member of the National Commission for Women and a BJP leader, tweeted.

In the popular video, the males touched her inappropriately and forcefully tried to put colour on her. A man also cracked an egg on her head.

As seen in the video, the woman struggled to get away from the group of men. But she persisted in repeating "bye" as she made an effort to leave that group. As one of the men touched her again, she gave a brief smile to the camera before slapping him and leaving.
