5-Member SIT to Probe Haridwar Dharma Sansad 'Hate Speech' Case

The SIT will be led by a superintendent of police officer, and anyone found guilty would face legal punishment, according to Karan Singh Nagnyal, the Garhwal deputy inspector general.

NEW DELHI: In connection with recent hate remarks made at the Dharam Sansad in Haridwar, Uttarakhand, two more persons have been detained.

The names of Sagar Sindhu Maharaj and Yati Narsinghanand Giri have been added to the FIR in the Dharma Sansad hate speech case.

According to Uttarakhand DGP Ashok Kumar, two more names, Sagar Sindhu Maharaj and Yati Narsinghanand Giri, have been added to the FIR in the Haridwar Dharma Sansad hate speech case as a result of the viral video clip.

According to the DGP, Section 295A is now included in the FIR.

According to Haridwar Circle Officer Shekhar Suyal, the names of Ghaziabad's Dasna temple priest Yati Narasimhanand, who organised the event, and seer Sindhu Sagar were added to the FIR. 

Waseem Rizvi alias Jitendra Tyagi, Sadhvi Annapurna, Dharamdas, Yati Narasimhanand, and Sindhu Sagar have now been added to the FIR, bringing the total number of people detained in the case to five.

So far, Yati Narasimhanand, the abrasive priest of Dasna temple, has managed to elude the probe. Rizvi, who was the president of the Uttar Pradesh Shia Waqf Board before converting to Hinduism and changing his name to Jitendra Narayan Tyagi, is now a Hindu.

According to Haridwar Kotwali SHO Rakinder Singh, Swami Dharamdas and Sadhvi Annapurna's names were earlier added to the FIR after the existing film of the incidence was scanned.

Attendees at the three-day meeting held at Ved Niketan Dham in Haridwar from December 16 to 19 allegedly shouted highly harsh statements urging violence against Muslims, according to a PTI report. The Dharam Sansad was organised in Haridwar by Yati Narasimhanand, the priest of Dasna temple in Ghaziabad.
