7830 new Covid Cases Detected in 24 Hrs, Highest Spike in 223 Days

With the new cases, the active caseload in the country is 40215 as of Wednesday.

NEW DELHI: The nation has been witnessing a sharp rise in the daily number of Covid-19 cases in a few states of the country. As per the latest numbers, 7830 new cases were detected in the last 24 hours, which is a considerable increase compared to almost the past half a year.

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India mentioned that the single-day number of positive cases of 7830 is the highest spike in the last 223 days. With this new number, the active caseload in the country is now 40215 as of Wednesday.

As per the records of the department, a total of 44204771 people had recovered so far. This takes the recovery rate from Covid to a total 98.72 per cent. An additional 16 deaths due to the infection has taken the death toll to 531016 with the official death toll standing at 1.19 per cent.

The 16 new incidents of death due to the infection have been reported from seven states of the country. As per the reports, Delhi, Punjab and Himachal Pradesh recorded two deaths each while Gujarat, Maharastra, Tamil Nadu, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh had one death each.

The previous major spike was on September 1, 2022, when a total of 7946 positive cases were detected.

In view of this spike in the number of cases, the Union Health Ministry organised a massive country wide mock drill to check covid preparedness in the country. The two-day drill was successfully conducted across a total of 724 districts in 35 states of the country according to the Health Ministry.

The mock drill was conducted across nearly 1300 health facilities distributed across the state of Assam to test the Covid preparedness of the health department. Since the number of Covid cases has been seen to be increasing in the last few days and setting new records, the health department is taking preemptive measures to handle any surge of infections in Assam. As a part of this endeavour, a total of 25 district hospitals, 11 government medical college hospitals, 223 community health centres and sub-divisional hospitals have been bought under the mock drills. A huge number of primary health centres also took part in this drill.
