Thiruvananthapuram: At a time when digital media is becoming increasingly common in the "information age" and smartphones are fast replacing conventional mediums, it has become important for one to be technology savvy. Although most old still prefer reading world news on the physical copies with their morning tea, an 89-year-old grandma from Kerala has decided to go digital.
Arun Thomas, the woman's grandson, recently posted a couple of pictures of his 89-year-old grandmother learning to use the laptop to read e-newspapers on Reddit. In the pictures, one can see the granny named Mary Mathew sitting in front of a laptop and probably reading the obituary section of an online Malayalinewspaper.
Needless to say, these heartwarming pictures have earned Mathew the respect of netizens, who have saluted her for her effort.
Arun told media that his granny usually starts off by reading the obituary to keep track of the people who died in a week. He added that she likes reading Mathrubhumi, a Malayalam language daily, online.
The woman has been lauded on Reddit, where users have started looking up to her as an inspiration. "I came to say the same thing! Pls get her a laptop stand! Amazing that she's learning this now and she really looks super healthy and happy!," a user wrote, commenting on the pictures, while another said, "This picture is so 100% Kerala that I didn't even have to look at the script to confirm. Such a great capture, makes me homesick. Great that your grandma is able to keep up with Mathrubhumi online!"
Another user lauded her for her ability to adapt. "Kudos to her , Learning and adapting at this age ain't easy also, please get her an adjustable laptop stand .. sitting with her back Bent will cause back problems," another user said, saluting her "can do" spirit.
