A 500 Tonne, 60 Feet Long Iron Bridge Stolen In Broad Daylight In Bihar

A gang of thieves pretending to be government officials demolished the old bridge in Rohtas district of Bihar using gas cutters and escaped taking away the scrap metal.

BIHAR: In a bizarre robbery incident in Bihar, a 60 feet long bridge has been stolen by a group of men posing themselves as government officials.

The extraordinary heist of stealing a bridge in broad daylight by the gang of thieves has created much sensation after the incident news went viral on social media.

The shocking robbery incident took place on Saturday 9 April in the Rohtas district of Bihar. The bridge robbed was built in 1972 over the Ara Canal in Amiyavar village of Bihar's Rohtas.

According to reports, the thieves appeared as the officials from the Bihar irrigation department to succeed in their motive of taking away the bridge metal.

They allegedly used earthmover machines and gas cutters to break the 60 feet left-out Canal Bridge and then fled from the spot taking away the scrap metal.

The incident came to light of the villagers after the thieves escaped and then they informed the concerned officials said the SHO (Station House Officer) of Nasriganj Police Station.

A junior engineer of the irrigation department named Arshad Kamal Shamshi informed that the locals said a group of men showing themselves as irrigation department officials uprooted the bridge after destroying it using machines such as gas cutter and JCB.

According to the villagers, a group of men posing as government officials reached the old and already half-broken abandoned canal bridge and completely uprooted it using certain machines.

Shamshi further said that an FIR has been filed against the gang of thieves who stole the bridge which was earlier declared dangerous for becoming too old.

The junior engineer stated that such a sudden disappearance of the bridge shocked the people of the village and resulted in disturbance among the people.

Samshi informed the case by the department against the robbery has been registered in the Nasriganj Police Station in Rohtas, Bihar.

Meanwhile, an investigation has been initiated to arrest the culprits behind the incident and to serve them with the punishment they deserve.

The station house officer said that the scrap dealers in the area have been alerted regarding the robbery of scrap from the bridge.
