Mumbai: Bollywood actor Salman Khan has been issued a gun license after he made an application for the same following the death threats.

''Actor Salman Khan has been issued an Arms license after he applied for a weapon license for self-protection in the backdrop of threat letters that he received recently,'' media reports quoted Mumbai Police's statement as saying.

The Dabangg actor in his request letter to Mumbai Police had mentioned that he sought the license for self-protection in the backdrop of the death threat letters that he had received from some members of Lawrence Bishnoi's gang.

Reportedly, Salman's criminal record and background were checked before the firearm license was issued and eventually after the approval from the Mumbai Police headquarters came after standard procedure steps were cleared.

Interestingly, some reports also claim that Salman has upgraded his vehicle to a bulletproof Land Cruiser ever since he received the threat. The vehicle has been equipped with armor and bulletproof glass.

In May this year, the actor and scriptwriter father Salim Khan received a threat letter which stated that they would meet the fate of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moose Wala who was shot dead in his vehicle.
