New Delhi: After Rajkot, Vadodara and Bhavnagar, Ahmedabad has become the fourth city in Gujarat to issue directives for removing the non-veg cum meat stalls from the main road.

These shops will also be removed by the Municipal Corporation within a radius of 100 meters of schools, colleges and religious places. However, street vendors have become upset as soon as the municipal corporation starts this campaign.

According to a news agency report, Devang Dani, chairman of the Town Planning Committee, said that this ban will come into effect from Tuesday.

He also added that there were many complaints from the people of the city regarding these stalls.

''Keeping all these complaints in mind, this decision has been taken in the planning committee meeting,'' he said.

Reportedly, commenting on the same, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has said that people are free to eat whatever they want.

''It is not a question of being vegetarian or non-vegetarian. People are free to eat whatever they want. But the food being sold at the stall should not be harmful and traffic should not be disrupted,'' he added.

The Chief Minister further added that action can be taken against those stalls selling poor quality food or obstructing the traffic system.

''Some people eat vegetarian food and some non-vegetarian, the BJP government has no problem with it. Our concern is only with the quality of the food we get at these places,'' he added.

Earlier, a few political leaders of the municipal corporations of Rajkot, Bhavnagar and Vadodara had started to remove these stalls as part of their routine anti-encroachment drives after issuing similar directives.
