Mumbai: Shiv Sena chief and Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Wednesday tested positive for COVID-19 amid Maha Vikas Agadhi (MVA) government is going through a turbulent phase.

This comes shortly after Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari was admitted to the HN Reliance Foundation Hospital in south Mumbai as he contracted the virus.

Senior Congress leader Kamal Nath, the All India Congress Committee (AICC)'s appointed observer in Maharashtra, informed the media that he was unable to meet Uddhav Thackeray as the CM had tested positive for the infection.

However, Nath said that he spoke to CM Thackeray over the phone as the Sena chief was down with Covid.

''Out of the total 44 Congress MLAs in the House, 41 had attended the party meeting, while three were on their way,'' he added.

He further informed that he is scheduled to hold a meeting with NCP supremo Sharad Pawar next.

Meanwhile, uncertainty looms large over the future of the MVA government in Maharashtra, with Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde along with at least 40 MLAs, as he claims, camping in Guwahati, after they were shifted from a resort in Surat early Wednesday morning.

Eknath Shinde, who rebelled against Shiv Sena, went to Surat along with party MLAs to demand the formation of a government with BJP in Maharashtra.

Reportedly, before leaving for Guwahati at Surat airport, Eknath Shinde clearly stated that he hasn't left Balasaheb Thackeray's Shiv Sena and will not leave it further.

Shiv Sena currently has 55 MLAs, NCP has 53 MLAs and Congress has 44 MLAs. There are 13 independents in the house.

Of the thirteen independent candidates, six are supporters of the BJP, five have supported the Shiv Sena, while the Congress and the NCP have one independent each.
