Amid Skyrocketing Tomato Price, Chennai Hotel Offers Free Tomato With 1kg of Biryani

In winter, the price of tomatoes, which usually comes at price of Rs 20, has crossed Rs 100 a kg in many cities. In Chennai, the price of the tomatoe is Rs 160 per kg.

Chennai: As the prices of tomato are on its peak in the country, many people are facing the heat of the same and maintaining distance from their favorite dishes. However, a hotel in Chennai has come out with special offers.

The hotel named Ambur Biryani at Sothupakkam has announced that a customer can either trade 1 kg of tomatoes for 1 kg biryani or he/she can get half kg of tomatoes while buying 1 kg of biryani.

''We came out with such an offer after the prices of tomatoes went high. So far, around 350 customers bought 1kg of biryani and took the free tomatoes with them while only 3 to 4 customers brought tomatoes to trade for biryani,'' the hotel owner, Gnanavel was quoted as saying by a national daily.

Reportedly, in a bid to tide through the crisis, State-owned farm fresh retail shops are selling tomatoes for Rs 80.

Notably, Tomato price in Chennai costs Rs 140 while half kilo biryani at Gnanavel's shop costs Rs 80.

However, it is not only, tomato price which have been impacting people but milk as well as edible oils to transport fuels, rising prices have hampered the financial health of ordinary middle class families in India.
