Guwahati: Union Home Minister Amit Shah has announced that the upcoming census would be the first E-Census which will ensure 100 percent enumeration and will help in framing plans for the country for the next 25 years.

He was speaking during the inauguration of an office building of the Directorate of Census Operations at Amingaon on Monday.

"The field works of the Census-2021 were postponed due to the Covid-19 outbreak. It will be an e-census. It will be 100 percent perfect. In a demographically sensitive state like Assam, the census is important. The government will prepare the development roadmap for the next 25 years based on the data of this census," he said.

He further said that people mostly talk about lacunae and they hardly discuss the ways to solve them.

''We need proper planning. Planning will be accurate if the census data are accurate. We will make software and link it with birth and death registration,'' he added.

He said that by 2024, every birth and death will be linked to the census and this will update the census work automatically. At the same time, he also said that when this software is launched, he and his family will be the first to update the information in it.

What Is E-Census And What Will Be Done In It?

The electronic census 2020 relied in its methodology on electronic administrative records in the country, through which data on population, residences, and establishments are collected.

As stated by Home Minister Amit Shah, the date from birth to death will be added to the census. The date will be entered in the census office with the birth of the child and after that, at the age of 18 he will get the right to vote automatically and the profile will be closed with the death.

By the year 2024, every birth and death will be registered in e-census. That is, from now on the census of the country will be updated automatically. Amit Shah said that if a person buys a house to live in another city, he will automatically get the right to vote in that city.

Also, there will be no need to rush to government departments for other facilities. Shah claims that this digital data will also make it easier for the government to formulate policies for the next 25 years.
