KOLKATA: Wheel chair bound West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee while leading a rally at Kolkata on Sunday said that attempts have been made to stop her, however, she is adamant to carry forward the canvassing of her party across the state on wheelchair stating, "an injured tiger is more dangerous".

Banerjee today joined a five km road show from Mayo Road to Hazra More, to mark the Nandigram Diwas that is observed to commemorate the killing of 14 villagers in police firing during the anti-land acquisition protest in 2007.

It needs to be mentioned here that Banerjee will be contesting from Nandigram constituency against her former close aide-turned-bete noire, Suvendu Adhikari who will be contesting the election on a BJP ticket.

"As a mark of respect and encouraged by my brothers and sisters of Nandigram, I am contesting #BengalElections2021 as @AITCofficial candidate from this historic place. It is my great honour to be here and work along with members of Shaheed families against anti-Bengal forces," Banerjee tweeted.

While addressing the gathering after the rally Banerjee asserted that attempts to halt her campaigning have failed. Moreover, she has faced a lot of attacks in life but never surrendered, "I will never bow my head. An injured tiger gets more dangerous," she added.

Accompanied by senior TMC leaders, Banerjee was seen greeting the crowd with folded hands, with security personnel pushing her wheelchair. The party members hailed Banerjee as "Bengal's daughter" and raised slogan against the BJP as "outsiders". In reference to the Banerjee's injured leg the TMC activist also chanted the slogan "Bhanga Paye Khela Hobe!" (Will play with broken leg).

The CM on March 10 sustained injuries during a road show, which the TMC has alleged as an "attack" on the party supremo. Following the incident, a delegation of the TMC met the Election Commission of India ECI and demanded a probe into the alleged attack. Moreover, the opposition including the BJP and the Congress termed that the incident was made up and was an attempt to gain the sympathy of the people ahead of the polls. They further demanded a probe to clarify the matter. Accordingly, EC sought a detailed report on the incident from the state government and appointed two poll observers for the state.

As per reports, the EC ruled out allegations made by the TMC and said that the injury was accidental and there is no evidence of an attack on the Bengal chief minister.
