KOTA: A fifteen-year-old NEET aspirant from UP was found dead, suspended from the ceiling fan in his hostel room in Kota on Thursday, police stated, making it the second suspected suicide case in 4 days in this education hub in Rajasthan.

Dhanesh Kumar Sharma, a resident of Khurja City in Bulandshahr district, is suspected of taking his own life for reasons not yet known, though educational pressures seem to be at work here, claiming the life of this student. His dead body was found by the hostel warden in Landmark City in the Kunhari area.

The Class Eleven scholar had come to Kota at the most a month from now and was making himself ready to appear for the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET-UG) at an education centre, police stated.

Kunhari SHO Ganga Sahay Sharma stated the scholar had his dinner and retired to his room at about 10 PM on Wednesday night. His dad and mom grew concerned when he did not reply to their repeated phone calls.

They asked a boy, who hailed from their town and resided in Kota, to check on their son. The boy and the hostel warden broke into Dhanesh Sharma’s room on Thursday morning and found him hanging from the ceiling fan hook, the SHO said.

“Prima facie, homesickness and stress from studies appear to be the reasons behind the extreme step. However, no suicide note has been recovered from his room and the actual reason behind his death will be ascertained,” Circle Officer DSP Shankar Lal said.

The deceased's body is presently in the possession of a mortuary and will undergo a post-mortem examination upon the arrival of his parents, as stated by Lal.

Mohammed Nasid, a 22-year-old native of Bengaluru, purportedly passed away on Monday after jumping from the tenth storey of a multi-storey building subsequent to taking the NEET-UG exam this year.

This year, a minimum of seven pupils who were enrolled in different coaching centres in Kota have lost their lives due to alleged suicide. Furthermore, a pupil who attempted to self-immolate was rescued.

In the previous year, the coaching hub witnessed the demise of fifteen coaching students due to suicide.

Academic pressure is taking a toll on students, sometimes snuffing out a life in the prime. Many attribute this to excessive parental expectations. People need to be realistic. At the same time, constant mentoring and counselling is the need of the hour to put a stop to this kind of incidents.
