The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has successfully tested the Supersonic Assisted Release of Torpedo (SMART). The SMART was tested from Havilar Island off the Odisha coast on Monday.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated the DRDO and other stakeholders and said this missile is a major technology breakthrough for stand-off capability and anti-submarine warfare.

According to reports, this missile is expected to be extremely useful in anti-submarine warfare (ASW) operations outside the range of torpedoes. The test of this missile has been monitored by systems like sea-based vessels, coast, and telemetry stations.

Earlier this month, DRDO successfully tested a laser-guided anti-tank missile, tested from MBT Arjun tank.
