Asian Boxing Championship 2021: MC Mary Kom Loses Final Bout, Receives Her Silver Medal

With a razor-thin split decision of 3-2 decision over MC Mary Kom, the Kazak pugilist emerged triumphant.

In the final of Women's Fly event (48-51kg) at the Asian Boxing Championships in Dubai on Sunday, boxing legend MC Mary Kom settled for a silver medal ahead of the Tokyo Olympic Games after a hard-fought loss against Nazym Kyzaibay, who is 11 years her junior (May 30). 

The fight between MC Mary Kom, a six-time world champion, and Kazakisthan's Nazym Kyzaibay, a two-time world champion, was a close one. With a razor-thin split decision of 3-2 decision over MC Mary Kom, the Kazak pugilist emerged triumphant.

Lalbuatsaihi (64 kg), Pooja Rani (75 kg), and Anupama (81+ kg) are three additional Indian ladies competing in their respective finals. The men's finals will be held on Monday. 

Mizoram's Lalbuatsaihi lost the final bout against Kazakhstan's Milana Safronova in the Women's Light Welter (60-64kg). 

Pooja received a walkover in her semi-final match and will face Mavluda Movlonova of Uzbekistan in the final. Meanwhile, Anupama will later take on a Kazakh fighter.
