GUWAHATI: A man from Assam was given a seven-year severe prison sentence for involvement in terrorist activities on Wednesday by a special National Investigation Agency (NIA) court in Bengaluru.

Arif Hussain is also required to pay a fine of Rs 53,000. He was detained in 2020 on suspicion of having ties to Jamaat-e-Islami and Muhideen Bangladesh.

In this case, the court has already found seven people guilty. Special public prosecutor P. Prasanna Kumar informed that Hussain was a part of a JMB-initiated plot to produce explosive devices (IEDs).

In order to raise money for JMB's terrorist activities, he took part in a scam that was carried out by the organization, according to Kumar. He is a co-accused in the Bodh Gaya blast case.

NIA declared: "Together with 13 other JMB members, Arif Hussain, a specialist in IED creation, was working out of several hideouts in and around Bengaluru. Hussain provided instruction to his fellow alleged terrorists.”

In another incident, a conman from Gujarat has been now arrested for impersonating a PMO official. With more than a thousand followers, Kiran J. Patel has a verified Twitter account.

Patel travelled to several tourist destinations in Kashmir, including Gulmarg, while posing as an additional director for strategy and campaigns in the Prime Minister's Office. He claimed that the government had given him the assignment to look for improvements in the area's hotel accommodations.

The Gujarati man even managed to swindle the government by obtaining Z-plus security protection, a bulletproof car, and official lodging at a five-star hotel in Jammu and Kashmir.

During his third journey to the Kashmir Valley, however, Patel was subsequently detained on March 3 by vigilant security personnel.

He was detained by authorities in Srinagar's five-star hotel for pretending to be the Centre’s "extra secretary" and receiving security protection in addition to other perks.
