Bajrang Dal Activists Attacked Muslim Vendor For Selling Halal Meet In Karnataka

Some members of the Bajrang Dal argued and attacked the Muslim meet vendor during their campaigning against halal meat in the Hosamane area of Karnataka.

BENGALURU: In a recent incident of communal hatred in Karnataka, members of the right-wing group allegedly attacked a Muslim vendor for selling halal meet informed police on Thursday 31 March.

The incident took place on Wednesday 30 March, in the Bhadravatthi area in Shuvamogga of Karanataka.

This comes just one day after the Chief Minister of Karnataka Basavaraj Bommai stated that the state government will look into serious objections raised against halal meat as informed by the police.

The Superintendent of Police (SP), Shivamogga BM Laxmi said to reporters that an FIR has been filed against the accused right-wing group under relevant sections.

According to police, some Bajrang Dal activists trashed the Muslim meet vendor on Thursday and also threatened him for not selling non-halal meet.

The victim meet seller has been identified as Thousif, a resident of Bhadravatthi, Karnataka.

SP Laxmi said that Bajrang Dal activists got involved in arguments with the vendor and then started to attack him physically.

The case against the activist members has been registered at the Hosamane police station in the Bhadravatthi area.

As informed by the police, on Wednesday 30 March at around 12:30 pm the Bajrang Dal members went into the meet shop during their campaigning in the Hosamane area. They were raising protests against halal meat sold in the area.

The activists asked the Muslim vendor to sell meat in his chicken shop that is not halal but the man refused saying that non-halal meet is not currently available and he will soon arrange it.

Soon after the vendor replied the activists thrashed him out of anger for arguing and not accepting their demands stated the police officials.

Meanwhile, the police have initiated a detailed investigation of the incident to arrest the activist and interrogate them.
