BENGALURU: A woman from Assam has hit the headlines for the wrong reasons, after she caused a sensation in a case of coldblooded murder, which was reported from Bengaluru in Karnataka.

It has been reported that Sonali Sen, a physiotherapist originally hailing from Assam, allegedly murdered her 71-year-old mother Bibha Pal in a flat they were residing in, in Bengaluru city.

In a chilling narrative, 39-year-old Sonali Sen from Assam killed her own mother, stuffed the dead body into a trolley suitcase and transported it to the nearby police station. She surrendered to the police and confessed to her crime upon interrogation.

According to police sources, the incident happened under Mico Layout police station, and the woman was arrested after her surrender and subsequent confession.

The accused woman lived in apartment with her husband, child, mother-in-law, and her mother Bibha Pal -the victim of the horrific act. She claimed to have killed her mother by strangling her with a towel, after overdosing her on pressure pills.

During interrogation by the police, the accused Sonali Sen revealed that she had forced her mother to consume as total of 30 blood pressure tablets, which resulted in a paralytic stroke of the victim, rendering her helpless to escape her terrible fate.

The victim Bibha Pal was then strangulated with a scarf or dupatta by her daughter, leading to her death.

After the passing away of her husband five years ago, Bibha Paul, a 70-year-old widow, started living with her only daughter Sonali Sen in Bengaluru.

While no history of any mental illness suffered by Sonali has been reported, the police say she may have been living under severe stress as she had to take care for her autistic child, husband, mother, and mother-in-law, in an apartment located at Bilekahalli, a suburban area in Bengaluru South.

Bengaluru's South East Division Deputy Commissioner of Police, CK Baba, said, "The lady is from Assam. She has studied physiotherapy. She was working at a hospital. For the last few years, she was not working.”

The DCP also stated that she used to stay with her mother, mother-in-law, her son, and her husband, who works in a private company. “The incident was between her and her mother. We are yet to ascertain the reason behind it,” he added.

The DCP also clarified that the victim was not on sleeping pills, as reported earlier, but blood pressure medicines which her daughter made her take in a copious amount.

According to her confession, the daughter used to have regular altercations with her mother, due to which she committed the horrific crime, the police said.

Investigation into the case has revealed that the crime took place after the mother-daughter duo engaged in a heated argument on June 12.

Meanwhile, the police have registered a suo moto case of murder against Sen and sent Pal’s body for postmortem.
