Bully Bai App Controversy: Pictures of Muslim Women At Auction

Pictures of Muslim women uploaded on the GitHub app named Bully Bai have resulted in massive controversies. Photographs of Muslim women were put on auction at the Bully Bai app.

NEW DELHI: A controversy has taken place after pictures of Muslim women were uploaded on the hosting platform GitHub application named Bully Bai.

Meanwhile, the Twitter account of the app has also been suspended after various cases registered on the matter.

Bully Bai is a mobile application that targets minority women by using their photographs in an inappropriate manner. Objectionable pictures of Muslim women were auctioned on this particular after the photographs are posted to view. An unknown group has been targeting and harassing Muslim women on the Github app.

IT Minister of the country, Ashwini Vaishnav informed that the Central government is working with Mumbai and Delhi police for action into this matter and the Minister himself has initiated a detailed investigation along with the Cyber cell.

According to reports, CERT (Indian Computer Emergency Response System) and police officials are cooperating with senior government officials to investigate the app and take the required action.

The government was instructed to form a high-level committee for inquiry into the issue and coordinate with the cyber cell. Cases were lodged against Twitter handle and the app developer and Github confirmed that the user has been blocked.

Priyanka Chaturvedi, the Shiv Sena Rajya Sabha MP complaining over such cybercrime said that FIR has been lodged against the developer of Bully Bai App under Information technology Act Section 67, Section 500, Section 509, Section 295, Section 153(A) and Section 153(B). The case was registered at the cyber police station in the western area of Mumbai hosted at Github.

The Bully Bai app that was formed on Github Application Programming Interface (API) runs like a Suli deal mobile app. The bio of the app reads, "Bulli Bai Khalsa is an open source app operated by the community of Sikh Force." It is reported that photographs of over 100 influential Muslim women were uploaded on the app.

The National Commission of Women has recently written to Delhi Police asking to take strict action over the matter and ensure that such types of crimes are not repeated.
