'Bury BJP and bowl them out from Nandigram': Mamata Banerjee

Banerjee in pitted against her former aide Suvendu Adhikari who will be contesting on a BJP ticket in the second phase of the state assembly elections to be held on April 1.

KOLKATA: As the campaigning for the second phase of the West Bengal Assembly elections will end today evening, political parties have intensified their campaigning in the state. With all eyes in Nandigram constituency, leaders have frequented their road shows or padyatra's to woo voters.

Reaching out to the people in Nandigram, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee at an election rally in Sona Chura, Nandigram, has urged the voters to "bury the BJP and bowl them out from Nandigram as well as West Bengal."

While reaching out to the women folk she stated that she could have contested the elections from a different constituency but it is the respect for the mother's and sisters of the place that has compelled her contest from the seat.

In line with the violence that occurred in Nandigram in 2007, Banerjee stated that to pay her tribute to the Nandigram Movement, she has choosen Nandigram over Singur.

"Remember, if I have entered Nandigram once, I will not leave. Nandigram is my place, I will stay here," Banerjee was quoted.

Earlier on Monday after the death of a BJP worker's mother, Union Home minister Amit Shah slammed TMC supremo Banerjee and said that the death of the elderly woman will haunt Banerjee for long. He further mentioned that Bengal will fight for a safer state for the sisters and mothers. Reacting to it Banerjee said that that she does not support violence against women and that the Home Minister remains mum during brutalities against women in Uttar Pradesh, a state ruled by BJP.

Meanwhile, Amit Shah on Tuesday held a roadshow in Nandigram, Suvendu Adhikari was also present.

Banerjee in pitted against her former aide Suvendu Adhikari who will be contesting on a BJP ticket in the second phase of the state assembly elections to be held on April 1. Voting would take place in 30 Assembly constituencies in the second phase from the districts of South 24 Parganas, Bankura and Purba Medinipur.
