NEW DELHI: Amit Malviya, the head of the BJP's IT unit, has been accused by the Karnataka police of "instigating people" and " encouraging hostility among groups " after reportedly posting a video on social media criticizing congress leader Rahul Gandhi.

In response to a complaint lodged by former Congress MLA Ramesh Babu at the High Grounds Police Station in Bengaluru, a first information report had been made against Malviya.

The BJP leader is accused of violating Indian Penal Code Sections 153A (promote hatred), 120B (criminal conspiracy), 505(2) (statements inciting hatred or animosity between classes), and 34 (common aim).

On the other hand, Tejasvi Surya, BJP MP for Bengaluru South reacted, “The FIR filed against Sri @amitmalviya is politically motivated. Plain and simple. Case is registered under 153A and 505(2) of IPC for his alleged statement against Rahul Gandhi. Both the above sections deals with promoting enmity between groups.”

Meanwhile, on June 29 and 30, Congressman Rahul Gandhi will travel to Manipur for two days. He will personally examine the situation during his tour, visit relief camps, and interact with civil society members in Churachandpur and Imphal. On June 27, Congress leader K C Venugopal made the announcement and shared it on Twitter.

In March, following his conviction in a defamation case for making comments deemed to be an insult to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, prominent opposition leader and former head of the Congress party Rahul Gandhi was barred from serving in parliament.

The main opposition party's de facto leader for nearly ten years, the Congress labelled it a "conspiracy" to muzzle him. The leader has been relentless in his criticism of Prime Minister Modi.
