Centre Extends PAN-Aadhaar Linking Deadline Till March 2022

According to details the deadline was till September 30 of this year.

NEW DELHI: The date of linking Aadhaar with PAN card has been extended by six more months till March 2022 by the central government.

According to details the deadline was till September 30 of this year.

"The Central Government, in continuation of its commitment to address the hardship being faced by various stakeholders on account of the Covid-19 pandemic, has, on consideration of representations received from various stakeholders, decided to extend timelines for compliances under the Income-tax Act, 1961," a press statement of Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) reads.

"Time limit for intimation of Aadhaar number to the Income-tax Department for linking of PAN with Aadhaar has been extended from 30th September, 2021 to 31st March, 2022," read the statement.

Besides, the due date for completion of penalty proceedings under the IT Act has also been extended from September 30, 2021 to March 31, 2022.

"Further, the time limit for issuance of notice and passing of the order by the 'Adjudicating Authority under the Prohibition of Benami Property Transactions Act, 1988' has also been extended to 31st March, 2022," it said.

On consideration of difficulties reported by the taxpayers and other stakeholders in filing of Income Tax Returns and various reports of audit for the Assessment Year 2021-22 under the Income-tax Act, 1961(the "Act"), Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has decided to further extend the due dates for filing of Income Tax Returns and various reports of audit for the Assessment Year 2021-22. The due date of furnishing of Return of Income for the Assessment Year 2021-22, which was 31st July, 2021 under sub-section (1) of section 139 of the Act, as extended to 30th September, 2021.
