CM Amarinder Urges PM Modi to Accept Farmers Demands, Internet Cut in Parts of Delhi

Internet services have been suspended in parts of the NCR amid the clashes between the protesters and Delhi Police during the farmers' tractor rally.

NEW DELHI: Amid reports of public destruction and vandalism in parts of the national capital, Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to accept the farmers' demands.

"The farm laws are completely wrong as they are against federalism since agriculture is a state subject under Schedule 7 of the Constitution," said the CM.

Earlier today, protestors were seen hoisting flag from the ramparts of the Red Fort.

The police were forced to use tear gas after farmers protesting against the farm bill laws, broke police barricades on Tuesday morning at Singhu and Tikri border points of the national capital, Delhi to make their way into the city.

Meanwhile, the protest which has been going on against the controversial farm bills from the last 65 days, the Punjab chief minister in December 2020 appealed to protesting farmers not to inconvenience the public with such actions but to continue to exercise the same restraint as they had been showing over the past several months of their agitation.

However, the Samyukta Kisan Morcha issued a joint statement on clashes during farmers' protest, distancing itself from the 'violent elements'.

Notably, Internet services have been temporarily suspended in some parts of Delhi amid clashes between the police and thousands of agitating farmers, whose tractor rally veered off the permitted course entering several areas including the iconic Red Fort, news agency ANI has reported.

A message circulating on social media reads, "As per government instructions, Internet services have been stopped in your area till further notice."

The Internet has been shut at areas near the Singhu border - the epicentre of farmers' protest against the three agriculture laws, Ghazipur, Tikri, Mukarba Chowk, Nangloi of the national capital till 23:59 hrs on January 26, news agency ANI quoted Union Home Ministry sources as saying.

The tractors rally will mark the completion of two months of protest against the Centre's contentious farm laws by farmers camping at the borders of Delhi.

Farmer leaders also announced a plan to march on foot to Parliament on February 1, the day the Union Budget will be presented.
