NEW DELHI: Siddaramaiah, the Congress' 'Kuruba' Leader, will be the next Chief Minister of Karnataka, with DK Shivakumar as his deputy. The ceremony will take place on May 20, 2023.

On the other hand, Siddaramaiah will be Karnataka's Chief Minister for the next 2.5 years, after which Shivakumar would take over as CM.

Meanwhile, following the Congress party's unexpected victory in the recently ended Karnataka election, both the former CM and state party president DK Shivakumar emerged as major contenders. On Tuesday, the duo headed to Delhi for discussions with Party chairman Mallikarjun Kharge.

On Thursday, taking on Twitter Siddaramaiah wrote, “We will always join our hands to protect the interests of Kannadigas.

Congress party will work as a family to provide transparent & corruption free governance, and to implement our guarantees.”

Siddaramaiah who belongs to the Kuruba community, represented the Chamundeshwari constituency in Mysuru in the Karnataka assembly five times: in 1983 as an Independent, in 1985 on a Janata Party ticket, in 1994 and 2004 for the Janata Dal, and in 2006 for the Congress by a slim margin of 257 votes.

Siddaramaiah, a law graduate and AHINDA leader was Karnataka's Chief Minister from 2013 until 2018. Siddaramaiah, often known as 'Siddu,' entered politics in the 1970s.

40% of voters chose him as the "Best CM." 'Siddu' adopted many development initiatives, such as low-cost meals, Karnataka Industrial Meal, and so on.

Siddaramaiah steadily gained a following in Congress and became a mass leader, popular among AHINDA voters (Dalit, Bahujan, and Minority). Siddaramaiah had declared in 2013 and 2023 that the AHINDA vote would bring Congress victory.

Initially identified as a 'right wing' activist, 'Siddu' was a member of the Janata Dal before being ejected by party head HD Deve Gowda. Siddaramaiah was born into a poor family in Siddaramanahundi and became Karnataka's chief minister in 2013 after the Congress party won 122 of the 224 seats.
