Guwahati: In a fascinating story, a Hyderabad resident finally passed his Class 10 examination after failing in repeated attempts for the last 33 years.

The man in question,  Mohammed Nooruddin, is a 51-year-old man who attempted to clear Senior Secondary Class (SSC) examinations.

However, this was possible only because of the current Covid-19 pandemic situation for which several states in India were forced to cancel the board exams or declare all candidates as passed.

It was in 1987 that Nooruddin who was a student of the Anjuman Boys High School in Musheerabad area had first appeared in the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) exam. He cleared all the papers except English, which proved to be a major obstacle for the unfortunate student.

"Since I studied in the Urdu medium, English was the biggest weakness. I wrote the exam every year but could not secure 35 marks (out of 100) required to pass the paper. I was narrowly missing this as I was scoring 32 or 33 marks but I decided not to give up," Nooruddin stated.

"I faced trouble in understanding English, and the family circumstances did not allow me to take tuition. Often, I took the help of my family members, but could never secure the passing marks. Every time, I got less than 30," he informed.

Notably, Noorudin's bad omen finally ended this year with the arrival of coronavirus followed by the lockdown and the shutdown of schools and colleges.

As per reports, Nooruddin's daughter, a B.Com graduate, also helped him with English.

He recalled those times when clearing the SSC was a must to secure any job in railways, police, or other departments.

"I was desperate to clear the exam but somehow it did not happen," said Nooruddin, who has been working as a security guard since 1990 at the same school where he studied and receives a monthly salary of Rs 8,000.
