COVID-19 Outbreak: 16,326 New Cases, 666 Deaths in Last 24 Hours in India

The rise in COVID cases throughout the country see a massive spike after the festivals. Assam recorded 758 new cases in the last 24 hours.

NEW DELHI: Daily COVID positivity spiked to a massive 16326 new COVID cases in India taking the total count to 3,41,59,562, while the active cases have declined to 1,73,728, the lowest in 233 days, according to the Union health ministry's data updated on Saturday. 

The SARS-CoV-2 virus causes Coronavirus Illness (COVID-19), an infectious disease. The majority of those infected with the virus have mild to moderate respiratory symptoms and recover without the need for medical attention. Some, on the other hand, gets critically unwell and require medical assistance. Serious sickness is more likely to strike the elderly and those with underlying medical disorders such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, chronic respiratory disease, or cancer. COVID-19 may make anyone sick and cause them to get very ill or die at any age.

According to the National Health Commission, authorities in the Chinese capital are stepping up measures such as testing and restricting hotel bookings as the total number of coronavirus cases climbed to nine on Saturday, while other parts of the country reported 38 locally transmitted COVID-19 cases. From Oct. 12 to Oct. 15, five people who tested positive in Beijing travelled to Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, and Shanxi Province before returning to Beijing on Oct. 16.

However, concerns have been raised about a spike in instances in Bengal following Durga Puja celebrations, with cases rising from 451 to 833 in only seven days. Experts are concerned because some of the new cases are asymptomatic, suggesting that more people may be affected. The state has recorded 846 instances in the last 24 hours.
