NEW DELHI: The number of COVID positive cases reached a new peak on Thursday. The Union Health Ministry has mentioned that the total number of cases recorded in the last 24 hours has been informed to be 10158 across the country.

This new number shows a sharp 29.7% compared to the 7830 cases that were detected on Wednesday. The sharp rising trend has been continuing over the last few days. These new 10158 cases take the active caseload of Covid invections to 44998.

As per a report, the daily positivity rate was recorded at 4.42 per cent while the weekly positivity rate was 4.02 per cent. The active cases now constitute 0.10 of the overall number of infections in the country.

Also, a total of 220.66 cr doses have been successfully administered to citizens as per government records.

According to the officials of the department, Covid in India is now moving towards the endemic stage and the cases may keep rising for the next 10-12 days following which, the number will subside on Wednesday. Although the number of positive cases is increasing, the number of hospitalisation incidents is low and expected to remain low.

The actual number of infections may be actually much higher than the mentioned number as the testing rate remains very low. Also, people tend not to consult physicians for the usual symptoms of the disease.

In view of this spike in the number of cases, the Union Health Ministry organised a massive country-wide mock drill to check covid preparedness in the country. The two-day drill was successfully conducted across a total of 724 districts in 35 states of the country according to the Health Ministry. They have also mentioned that ample resources have been stocked to handle another possible outbreak of the infection including beds, oxygen supply, ICU beds and essential medicines.
