New Delhi- India as of Tuesday almost crossed the 3 lakh mark after recording 2,95,041 fresh new cases of the novel coronavirus, the highest one-day spike recorded in the country so far. The cases of COVID-19 induced fatalities recorded in the last 24 hours from across the country amounts to 2,023 taking the total tally of deaths to 1,82,601. Today marks the seventh consecutive day that India has registered more than 2 lakh new cases making it the second-worst coronavirus-affected country in the world after the United States of America.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday virtually reached out to the people of this country to discuss the current state of the coronavirus pandemic. The main focus of the address was his appeal to the state governments to avoid lockdown, treating it only as a last resort if no other option is left. He also urged the state governments to mainly prioritize focus on the micro-containment zones.
Maharashtra still continues to be the worst coronavirus-affected state in this country with 62,097 fresh new coronavirus cases registered as of Tuesday taking the total tally of caseloads to 39.6 lakh. Another 519 coronavirus-induced fatalities have been reported from the state.
The southern states of Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Andhra Pradesh have the highest number of coronavirus cases after Maharashtra.
Delhi reported 28,395 new cases of the novel coronavirus, the biggest single-day spike recorded in the National Capital so far. Some of the prominent hospitals received the supply of medical oxygen late last night after Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal and Health Minister Satyendar Jain made several appeals for the same.
Kerela on Tuesday with 19,577 cases reported the highest rise in COVID-19 cases in a single day, taking the total caseload to over 12.72 lakh with 28 fatalities reported in the last 24 hours.
Uttar Pradesh is set to make vaccination free from May 1 after it is made available to people above the age of 18. The state has seen almost 30,000 new cases in the last 24 hours.
Mizoram on Tuesday becomes the first North-Eastern state to declare a weeklong lockdown and as per data from the Union Ministry, it is the second least coronavirus-affected state in the country with 5,085 total confirmed cases and 12 deaths.
Over 29.9 lakh vaccine doses have been administered as of Tuesday taking the total tally of vaccination since January to 13.01 crore.
Meanwhile, according to the daily bulletin issued by the NHM Assam on Tuesday, as many as 1651 COVID-19 positive cases have been detected in Assam on Tuesday with 3 COVID-19 induced fatalities. According to the latest update, out of the total 1651 fresh COVID-19 cases detected in Assam, 742 cases have been detected from in and around Guwahati city in the Kamrup Metro district. High numbers of new COVID-19 cases have been reported from Dibrugarh – 90, Kamrup Rural – 90, and Sonitpur – 82. The COVID-19 positivity rate in Assam on Tuesday was recorded at 2.46%. Read more
