Crude Bombs Recovered in West Bengal's South 24 Parganas

Amid the ongoing assembly election, at least 41 crude bombs have been recovered from West Bengal's 24 South Parganas district.

KOLKATA: Amid the ongoing assembly election, at least 41 crude bombs have been recovered from West Bengal's 24 South Parganas district, informed Deputy Election Officer, South 24 Parganas.

This comes after the second phase of the West Bengal Assembly elections, which was held on April 1.

Despite tight security arrangements the Election Commission along with the state police has on Friday recovered 41 crude bombs from the Padmapukur area under Pranganj Gram Panchayat in 148 Bhangor Assembly constituency.

The DEO informed that based on information received a raid was conducted following which the explosives were found in the presence of policemen of Baruipur police station from a bush.

A case has been registered over this incident. The DEO, South 24 Parganas informed that investigation of the case is going on while no one has been arrested till now.

The DEO in a statement said, "On April 4, based on a source information a raid was held by Bhangore PS of Baruipur Police District at Padmapukur area under Pranganj GP where 41 crude bombs were recovered from a bush. Over this incident a specific case has been registered under Bhangore P.S. This area falls under 148 Bhangore AC and PS No-224 Padmapukur F.P. School (R-1) and PS No-225 Padmapukur F.P. School (R-1) are already treated as vulnerable PSs. No person is arrested till now. Investigation of the case is going on."

The recovery is made at a time when two of the eight phases of Assembly elections in West Bengal have been conducted so far and the third phase is slated on April 6. The Assembly polls are being conducted in the state for 294 seats. The election began on March 27 and the counting is scheduled on May 2.

The second phase has witnessed sporadic violence in the state. However, over 80 per cent voter turnout was recorded in the second phase of the West Bengal Elections.
