BENGALURU: As many as 80 school children fell sick on Monday after consuming sambar in which a dead lizard was found in Venkatapura Tanda village near Ranibennur in Haveri district of Karnataka.

As per reports, a dead lizard has allegedly been discovered in sambhar served to Venkatapura Tanda Government Primary School kids. After eating the midday meal, the youngsters were ill.

Meanwhile, all the students were later transported to the Ranibennur government hospital.

Two of the children's conditions are described as "critical," according to education department officials. After initial therapy, the remaining 78 pupils have returned. According to onlookers, one of the boys was fed sambhar with a dead lizard during a midday lunch offered to the kids at the school.

The youngster notified others when he saw the reptile and immediately began vomiting. Other classmates began to get sick soon after. As a result, the local administration has urged officials to take necessary action against school officials who have been negligent.

In a similar incident earlier this year, at Tamil Nadu's Karur hamlet, rotten eggs containing worms were discovered in a school meal. The eggs were given out as part of the kindergarten children mid-day food programme.

The event occurred in a local school in Thogaimalai when eggs distributed as part of the government's mid-day meal plan were discovered to be rotting and worm-infested. After smelling a terrible smell coming from the eggs, the pupils allegedly contacted the school officials. The regulators notified the block development officer, who was tasked with investigating the situation.

In the Cuddalore area, at least 17 youngsters from an Anganwadi were hospitalised after eating a mid-day meal. From September 1, the programme was reinstated in Anganwadi.
