New Delhi: In a rather unseen and unusual incident, a Delhi-based middle-aged woman has been arrested for forging the signatures of another woman by her same name and withdrawing a huge amount from the other woman’s bank account.

Notably, the incident came into light when the victim alleged that someone has withdrawn an ample amount of Rs 3.5 lakh from her bank account without her knowledge and permission. When the police conducted an investigation on the matter, it was found that a middle-aged woman of same name and address has withdrawn the amount from the bank account.

The complainant is a resident of Vipin Garden in Dwarka's Uttam Nagar. She could also find that someone has been withdrawn her money through cheques and ATM cards, which she never received. She had applied for her cheque book and ATM card back in the month of February only, but she never received any courier from the bank. Police investigation reveals that the courier got delivered to another woman leaving in the same locality with the same name. The courier boy mistakenly delivered the documents to the other woman which was later misused by the other woman.

The accused was, however, tracked by the police earlier this week when she had approached the bank for another transaction.

On being interrogated, the accused said that she had come to live in the locality on rent around one-and-a-half years ago and was well-acquainted with the complainant for sharing the same name. she further confessed that she also knew the complaint does her signature in Hindi and she practiced it multiple times to be able to make the same signature on the checkbook. She could think of the forgery only after receiving the checkbook in courier mistakenly.

With such mistakes being done by the courier services and the bank authorities for not being able to detect and identify the forged signatures, this will not be the first case of forgery. After this incident, the bank authority, therefore, should be cautious and extra careful in catching the frauds and ensure the safety of their customers.
