Drugs worth ₹ 17 crore Seized by Special Task Force of Kolkata Police

The Special Task Force (STF) of the Kolkata Police has arrested five persons with banned drugs worth ₹ 17 crore in the Cossipore area of Kolkata.

Acting on a tip-off the Special Task Force (STF) of the Kolkata Police have arrested five persons who were in possession of banned drugs worth ₹ 17 crore in the Cossipore area of Kolkata.

As per reports, the STF detained five persons and seized two vehicles on Saturday. Two were from West Bengal's Murshidabad area, two from Manipur and a woman from Assam has been apprehended from Cossipore with banned drugs including heroin and Amphetamine tablets (Yaba).

The Bengal based accused were residents of Suti in Murshidabad district. Whereas, the Assam-based accused is a 72-year-old woman from Bokajan in Karbi district. The other accused were from Moreh in Manipur's Tengnoupal district.

Reportedly, a total of 2.097 kg of heroin worth ₹ 10 crore in the international grey market and around 1,50,000 pieces of the Yaba tablets weighing 17.250 kg having a market value of ₹ 7.50 crore were seized from their possession.

All the accused have been charged under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

Seizure of drugs worth crores of rupees has been frequently reported in Kolkata. Earlier, in January, similar reports came to the fore when the Special Task Force from the Kolkata Police arrested two "drug peddlers" and "seized drugs worth crores of rupees"

Two Assam based drug peddlers were arrested near Milkcolony, Belgachia under Ultadanga Police station area. The police seized a vehicle and recovered heroin and several 'party drugs', hidden inside the battery box of the seized vehicle.

A huge amount of narcotic drugs such as heroin and amphetamines tablets, commonly known as 'yaba', were found in their possession. Following a preliminary investigation, it came to light that the contraband was meant to be smuggled to Bangladesh.
