Fake WhatsApp Account Created In Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla's Name

Meanwhile, according to reports, police have nabbed three people in Odisha, and an amount of Rs 14.32 lakh has also been recovered from the arrested persons.

New Delhi: Lok Sabha speaker Om Birla's office has said that a fake WhatsApp account was created in his name.

Taking to the micro-blogging site Twitter, Birla also informed that the matter has been reported to authorities concerned.

"Some miscreants have created a fake account in my name with a profile photo and sending messages to MPs and others from nos. 7862092008, 9480918183 & 9439073870. The matter has been reported to the authorities concerned. Plz ignore calls and messages from these and other numbers and inform my office," he tweeted.

Meanwhile, according to reports, police have nabbed three people in Odisha, and an amount of Rs 14.32 lakh has also been recovered from the arrested persons.

Apart from these, at least 19,000 pre-activated sim cards, and 48 mobile handsets were also seized from the accused after the police were alerted about suspicious demand for money from a WhatsApp account with Birla's photo.

Notably, in March 2020, Birla's Twitter account was hacked. Later, hackers changed his profile name, and a photo was replaced too for some time before it was restored.
