Himachal Pradesh: Fatal Road Accident Claims Four Lives in Shimla District

SHIMLA: In a devastating incident near Shalun Kaichi in the Shimla district of Himachal Pradesh, a severe road accident claimed the lives of four individuals, while leaving one person critically injured. The victims were returning from a wedding ceremony in an Alto car when the vehicle veered off the Bhadrash Rohru link road and fell into a ditch approximately 500 meters below. The accident victims, including two young men and two young women, tragically lost their lives at the scene, while a young girl was left in critical condition.

The deceased victims have been identified as Avinash Manta, Suman, Himani, and Sandeep, all residents of Kukhi village. The injured individual has been identified as Shivani, the elder sister of the deceased Himani.

Promila Mehta, the Panchayat Head of Kaleda Majhewti village, expressed her grief over the tragic incident. She revealed that the Baraat procession had arrived in Kaleda village from Devathi village on Tuesday night for a wedding and the accident occurred during their return journey on Wednesday morning near Shalun Kaichi.

Upon receiving information about the accident at 8 am on Wednesday, Sub-Inspector Jaidev and his team from the Rampur Bushahr Police Station swiftly reached the accident site. The Alto car had fallen into a deep gorge, making the recovery operation challenging. However, with the assistance of the police, fire brigade, and locals, the injured passenger was rescued along with the bodies of the deceased victims.

"A car accident took place near Shalun Kaichi on Bhadrash-Rohru link road in Shimla's Rampur police station area. We were informed about the car accident in the morning. Police reached the spot. There were 5 people in the vehicle out of which 4 people have died and an injured girl has been admitted to the hospital," said Jaidev Singh, Sub-Inspector, Rampur Police Station.

The injured passenger was immediately rushed to Khaneri Hospital in Rampur Bushahr for medical treatment. The police stated that the exact cause of the accident remains unknown and investigations are underway.

This tragic incident comes shortly after Mandi, another region in Himachal Pradesh, experienced flash floods and landslides, resulting in roadblocks on national highways. As a precautionary measure, the state traffic police have urged travelers to exercise utmost caution while driving in hilly areas, particularly during the rainy season.
