PATNA: The Bihar Assembly witnessed an unprecedented chaos after passing of the Bihar Special Armed Police Bill 2021 on Tuesday.

Videos circulating on social media shows that opposition MLAs were dragged, beaten up and pulled put in stretchers after they held the speaker hostage inside his chamber.

The issue that triggered the massive protest was the Bihar Special Armed Police Bill which was passed by the assembly late evening amid protest by the opposition members. As per the Bill it gives the police to search anyone without a warrant and take them into custody wherever they are posted.

Earlier, the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) under the leadership of Tejashwi Yadav and Tej Pratap Yadav planned a 'Vidhan Sabha gherao' programme to protest against unemployment, inflation, fuel prices, and the problems that the people of Bihar are facing as a result of the pandemic.

As per reports, they were stopped by police near Dak Bunglow crossing in Patna. Following this, a clash broke out between RJD workers and police. Several people were injured in the incident.

Reportedly, the police used water cannons to disperse the crowd, in retaliation the RJD workers pelted stones. The police later resorted to lathicharge.

Meanwhile, an FIR has been registered against RJD leaders Tejashwi Yadav, Tej Pratap Yadav and several other ministers after workers of the party clashed with police.

Both the leaders were accused of attacking on duty police officials and for damaging public property.

Tejashwi Yadav, Bihar's Leader of the opposition who was inside the Vidhan Sabha premises in the afternoon, tweeted: "Draconian Act which will give absolute powers to Police,so that it can act as veritable arm of Nitish's dictatorial politics, has been passed in police protection by throwing out battered MLAs using Police itself. See how Police is blocking our MLAs inside the house. Shameless!

Former Chief Minister Rabri Devi also alleged that female Legislators were assaulted in the state Assembly on Tuesday.

She said in a tweet in Hindi, (loosely translated as): "The women legislators were assaulted in the Assembly. Their saris were openly pulled, they were dragged...their blouses were pulled, and badly misbehaved with... and Nitish Kumar stood mute like Dhritarashtra. Power comes and goes, but history will never forgive you."
