Fire Breaks Out in Parliament Premises Ahead of Day 3 of Winter Session

The fire started in room 59 about 8 a.m. on Wednesday morning. The fire was taken within control by a total of seven fire tenders that arrived on the scene.

New Delhi: A fire broke out inside the Parliament premises on Wednesday morning. According to the Delhi fire department, the fire broke out in room number 59 of Parliament at around 8 AM.

The fire was stopped in its tracks by a total of seven fire brigades that arrived on the scene. There are no reports of injuries as a result of the fire, however, the cause of the fire has yet to be determined.

It should be noted that a similar situation occurred last August in the adjoining building of Parliament when a fire started out. A short circuit started the fire on the sixth level of the Parliament building. The Parliament's Winter Session began on Monday and is expected to end on December 23.

The event resulted in the destruction of some tables, chairs, and laptops. The official stated, "The cause of the fire has yet to be determined."

On Monday, 12 members of the House of Commons were suspended for an accusation of unruly behaviour close to the final part of the monsoon session in August, when officers on duty were called after opposition politicians tried to storm the House well throughout the passage of the General Insurance Business (Nationalisation) Amendment Bill, 2021. 

Six members of the Congress are suspended, two each from the Trinamool Congress and the Shiv Sena, and one each from the CPI and the CPM: Phulo Devi Netam, Chhaya Verma, Ripun Bora, Rajamani Patel, Syed Nasir Hussain, and Akhilesh Prasad Singh; Dola Sen, Shanta Chhetri of the Trinamool Congress; Priyanka Chaturvedi
