Four States Demand Immediate Withdrawal of Agneepath Scheme

With this, it has been demanded from the central government that this scheme should be withdrawn and states like Rajasthan, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Punjab are echoing the same.

New Delhi: Massive protest against the centre's new army recuritment scheme 'Agneepath' has forced several states to demand rollback of the same.

Ever since the protest erupted, some of the non-BJP ruled states criticise the scheme and demanding the rollback.

Notably, demonstrations against the scheme can be seen in many parts of the country. Protesters have disrupted transportation -- be it railway transport or road transport.

With this, it has been demanded from the central government that this scheme should be withdrawn and states like Rajasthan, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Punjab are echoing the same.

''In the interest of the country, Prime Minister should withdraw the Agneepath scheme,'' said Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.

He also added that massive protest against the scheme is a clear indication that this scheme is contrary to youths' feelings.

On the other hand, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has issued a statement urging the central government to withdraw the Agneepath scheme.

''Many retired defence officers and defence experts have opposed the plan. In such a situation, the government should withdraw this scheme. It is against the nation,'' he added.

Meawhile, moving a step ahead, in Rajasthan, the Council of Ministers on Saturday passed a resolution asking the Narendra Modi government to withdraw the Agneepath scheme.

Apart from other parts of the country, Rajasthan's Jaipur too has witnessed demonstrations against this scheme.

Reportedly, Congress will hold a rally in Jaipur on Sunday to protest against the scheme.

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann too has demanded the withdrawal of the scheme.

''The government should give a chance to thousands of youth who are waiting for the final recruitment after passing the physical test for two years to appear in the written examination and serve the country,'' he added.
