Guwahati: The Uttar Pradesh Police has gunned down two aides of the wanted gangster Vikas Dubey in separate encounters on Thursday, July 9.

Prabhat, one of the two aides, was arrested on Tuesday from Haryana's Faridabad, after Dubey was spotted at a hotel in the city. He was being taken to Kanpur on transit remand when he tried to flee from police custody as cops were changing the vehicle's punctured tire. He then snatched a pistol of a policeman and opened fire at the STF personnel accompanying him, injuring two of them.

It has been reported that in retaliation, the policemen fired at him. Prabhat sustained bullet injuries and was immediately rushed to a hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

According to police officials, Ranbir Shukla and three others looted a Swift Dzire car on the highway near Maheva late night. After the police received information about them, they chased the four men and one of them suffered injuries in a crossfire. He was declared dead at the hospital and was later identified as Ranbir Shukla, Vikas Dubey's aide. One pistol,  a double-barrel gun, and several cartridges were recovered from the car. Three others managed to escape, police said. Ranbir Shukla alias Bauva had a bounty of Rs 50,000 on him.

It is to be mentioned that last week, eight Uttar Pradesh Police personnel, including a deputy superintendent of police, were killed and seven others injured in a firefight with criminals in Kanpur. Seven others, including a civilian, were injured in the attack from a rooftop on a police team after it entered Bikru village to arrest Vikas Dubey, a history-sheeter who has about 60 criminal cases against him.

On Wednesday, Police has shot Amr Dubey, an aide of gangster Vikas Dubey, and arrested six other alleged accomplices. But the gangster appeared to have given police the slip in Haryana's Faridabad, near Delhi.

Another aide - Shyamu Bajpai - was arrested in a separate encounter in Kanpur on Wednesday.
