Girl Throws Acid On Youth In Haryana For Rejecting Her Marriage Proposal

After meeting him on a couple of occasions, Manisha asked him for marriage to which he told her clearly that he would not take this decision without the consent of his family

CHANDIGARH: A 23-year-old youth sustained burn injuries on Friday after his girlfriend, who got furious by the youth's refusal to marry her, threw acid on him near a school in Haryana's Hisar. The news, which has gone viral on social media, came to light on Monday.

The accused girl Manisha was arrested by police on Sunday after a complaint was lodged by the youth. According to the youth Shubham's statement, Manisha, who is the daughter of one of his distant relatives, threw acid on him when he refused her marriage proposal. After meeting him on a couple of occasions, Manisha asked him for marriage. He, however, told her clearly that he would not take this decision without the consent of his family, he stated.

The accused girl, however, claimed that the youth had some objectionable pictures of her sister and she wanted him to delete them. Meanwhile, a case was registered under Section 326A (voluntarily causing grievous hurt by use of acid etc) of the Indian Penal Code and Manisha was arrested. She was produced before a court after which she was sent to judicial custody.

In Assam's Dhemaji district, an almost similar incident took place last month. A college student was attacked with a sharp weapon by a youth Rintu Sharma for not accepting his love / marriage proposal. Nandita, who was critically injured, succumbed to her injuries in a hospital after four days. The incident had garnered immense attention on social media. Following the heinous incident, widespread protests broke out across the state for justice to the deceased girl.
