NEW DELHI: Prime Narendra Modi on Friday, November 05, 2021, inaugurated 12 feet tall statue of Adi Guru Shankaracharya at the rebuilt Samadhi of seer in Kedarnath. The Samadhi of the seer was reformed after it got damaged at the time of floods in Uttarakhand in the year 2013.
On his visit to Kedarnath PM Modi says that earlier it was believed that the concept of religion and spirituality is associated with stereotypes but the philosophy of India talks about the human welfare and sees life in a holistic manner and Guru Adi Shankaracharya throughout his life tried to make people aware of this fact.
In 2019 work on the statue of Shankaracharya had already begun weighing about 35 tonnes and it was made by the artist from Mysuru named Arun Yogiraj. Numerous eminent temples in the country streamed the unveiling of the statue lives including Shankaracharya's birthplace, 4 mutts, 12 jyotirlingas that are established by Adi Shankaracharya.
Guru Shankaracharya was an eighteenth-century philosopher and religious leader who was born in Kaladi at present-day Kerela. He was also the exponent of one of the schools of philosophy called Advaita Vedanta. He became an ascetic when he was 8 years old and had an interest in living a monastic life since his childhood but his mother doesn't support him on this. But mother later accepted when he was once caught by a crocodile and told it will leave only when she led her to become a monk. It is believed that Guru Shankaracharya died at a very young age when he was 32 years old in 820 CE.
Shankaracharya had built 4 mutts in India which are located in Puri in the east, Dwaraka in the west, Sringeri in the south, and Badrikashram in the north. He had traveled through various religious spots to form the pilgrim route like the 18 Shakti-peethas, 4 Vishnu-Dhaams, and twelve jyotirlingas. Shankaracharya has written more than 300 books in Sanskrit which includes his masterpiece Brahma-sutra-bhashya, the commentary on the Brahma-sutra.
The birth anniversary of Guru Shankaracharya is celebrated in Adi Shankaracharya Jayanti which was observed this year on 17 May. In the history of Hindu philosophy, he is one of the most powerful figures along with Madhava and Ramanuja who played a significant role in the restoration of Hinduism.
