NEW DELHI: As the Hijab Row is getting more intense in Karnataka and making the situation even worst by disrupting the peace and harmony, the state government has today announced for three days shutting down of schools and colleges in the state.

The decision is taken in concern of rapidly increasing protest on hijab ban row in the state.

On Tuesday 8 February the Chief Minister of Karnataka Basavaraj S Bommai made the announcement regarding the closing of schools and colleges across the state for the upcoming three days. The chief minister announced his decision through his Twitter account.

In the tweet on Tuesday, S Bommai appealed to students, teachers, school and college authorities and all the citizens of the state to maintain peace, order and harmony.

He further requested the concerned authorities to co-operate and follow the decision to shut down the educational institutions for 3 days.

On Tuesday 8 February, the high court heard the hijab row matter after the petitions filed by 5 women from Govt. College questioning the restrictions of Hijab and the hearing will be further continued tomorrow. The HC urged all students and the general public to maintain order.

In January this year, the hijab row had started at the Govt. Girls PU College is located in Udupi of Karnataka. At least 6 students from the school claimed that they were told not to attend classes for wearing hijab.

A few other students wearing saffron scarves went face-to-face with the Muslim students of the school raising the slogan of 'Jai Shri Ram.'

As the situation was getting worst, the school authorities had to interfere in the matter to keep both teams of students stay away from each other.

Students from various colleges and schools are now furious over the hijab ban imposed in various junior colleges of Karnataka.

Meanwhile, the education department and the state government have released a uniform dress code for all students to ensure proper uniformity in different educational institutions.
