Shimla: The northern state of Himachal Pradesh is on the verge of full vaccination thanks to its intensive door-to-door vaccination campaign which is similar to the Central Government's 'Har Ghar Dastak' initiative.

The Himalayan state achieved an incredible milestone when it became the first state in India to vaccinate 100% of its adult population with the first dose of the coronavirus vaccine. It is estimated that the state is likely to vaccinate 100% of its eligible adult population with the second dose of the vaccine by next week.

The state pursued an aggressive strategy of approaching people rather than the other way around. It seems like this strategy has clearly worked for them.

"We may be first in the administration of the second dose too. Himachal Pradesh is likely to hit the target of 100% vaccination by December 3. The excitement to take the second dose is lesser than the first dose. There is no fear of catching Covid-19, people have started going out and have been busy earning their livelihood," said the state health secretary Amitabh Awasthi.

He further credited the active involvement of local leaders, Gram Panchayats and Panchayati Raj Officials in overcoming this mammoth task. In order to vaccinate those people who are on the go, mobile units were stationed across districts.

The state is running another program wherein all the beneficiaries would be summoned as soon as they complete the 84-day interval between the two doses.

On 5 December, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, BJP national president JP Nadda and Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur who hails from Himachal will be present together to celebrate the success of the state's vaccination campaign.

In November, the Union Government launched a vaccination campaign to further increase the coverage of the vaccination. To vaccinate people who are eligible for the second dose and also those who have not yet received their first yet, the health workers go door to door under this campaign.
