Himanta Biswa Sarma Stresses On Nationwide NRC In Karnataka Rally

BENGALURU: Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday (May 2) said the need of the hour is a nationwide national register of citizens (NRC).

The Assam CM while praising the BJP manifesto released for the Karnataka assembly elections when he said this.

The BJP manifesto for the Karnataka assembly elections has promised implementation of NRC in the state.

Notably, CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said that NRC should not be limited only to a particular state but should be implemented nationwide.

Moreover, the Assam CM stressed on the need for implementation of the uniform civil code (UCC) across the country.

“Implementation of uniform civil code (UCC) will ensure gender justice and equal rights for Muslim women,” said Assam CM Sarma.

The Assam CM added that the Karnataka BJP has made a very bold commitment and it will usher a nationwide demand for the implementation of UCC across the country.

In its manifesto for Karnataka assembly elections, the BJP made a slew of promises, including implementation of UCC and NRC.

Earlier, on Monday (May 01), Himanta Biswa Sarma slammed the Congress party while campaigning for the Karnataka assembly elections, saying that the Congress party will not win any election for the next 100 years.

“I don’t think that Congress can do anything. Nobody should keep in mind that Congress will come to power. Congress will not win for the next 100 years,” the Assam CM said.

CM Sarma was addressing an election rally for BJP candidate from Tumakuru assembly constituency in Karnataka.

“This constituency (Tumakuru) symbolizes the corruption and inefficiency of Congress. Today, out of 342 villages, most villages don’t have drinking water and road. We want to convert it to the most efficient constituency of Karnataka. That is why we have put the best candidate because we want to serve the people of this constituency,” the Assam CM had said.

The polls for the 224-seat Karnataka assembly will take place on May 10 and counting of votes will be undertaken on May 13.

Meanwhile, a pre poll survey conducted by a Kannada media outlet ‘Eedina’ showed a clear win for Congress party defeating the BJP in the upcoming Karnataka assembly elections.
