AGARTALA: The veteran CPI (M) leader and former chief minister of West Bengal, Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee refused to accept the third-highest civilian award, Padma Bhushan Award 2022.
Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee in a statement mentioned that he has no idea about the award as he knows nothing about it and nobody has told him anything about the award. He further says that if the government has taken the decision of offering the award to him then he refuses to accept it.
According to the sources from the Communist Party of India (CPI), the decision of not accepting the Padma award comes from Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee and also from the party members.
The CPI in their Twitter handle wrote that Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee who was earlier nominated for the Padma Bhushan Award has decided to not accept the award. The party states that the policies of CPI (M) always stand in support of declining such awards from the government.
The CPI also added that their work is meant for the welfare of the people and not for the sake of such awards. The party in the tweet wrote that former Kerala Chief Minister and Indian communist politician Elamkulam Manakkal Sankaran Namboodiripad (EMS) was also offered an award but he refused to accept and declined it.
