NEW DELHI: The Indian Navy recently conducted a remarkable operation in the Arabian Sea to showcase its impressive capability in maintaining sustained air operations and safeguarding national interests. This exercise involved two aircraft carrier battle groups and over 35 aircraft, marking a significant milestone in the Navy's efforts to enhance maritime security and power projection.

The focal points of the exercise were the INS Vikramaditya and INS Vikrant, serving as "floating sovereign airfields" and launching platforms for various aircraft. These carriers, along with a diverse fleet of ships, submarines, and aircraft, demonstrated India's technological expertise in the maritime domain. They can be positioned anywhere, offering mission flexibility and timely response to emerging threats, thus protecting India's national interests globally and reassuring allies of India's readiness to support collective security needs in the region.

The successful demonstration of two-carrier battle group operations highlights the crucial role of sea-based air power in maintaining maritime superiority. As India strengthens its security apparatus, aircraft carriers play a paramount role in shaping the nation's defense strategy and promoting regional stability.

In another milestone, an indigenously developed Heavy Weight Torpedo successfully engaged an underwater target. This achievement represents a significant step for the Indian Navy and DRDO (Defense Research and Development Organization) in accurately delivering ordnance in the underwater domain. The release of video footage showcasing the torpedo's effectiveness may also aim to attract other countries to purchase the system, highlighting its capability against a range of threats in the seas.

Additionally, the Indian Navy celebrated the first landing of the MH60R helicopter, known as "Romeo," on the indigenously designed and constructed aircraft carrier INS Vikrant. The integration of this helicopter with naval warships enhances the Navy's Fleet Support and Anti-Submarine Warfare capabilities. It strengthens the Navy's ability to detect and counter threats below the surface, conduct surveillance missions, and maintain situational awareness in the water.

These recent developments highlight the Indian Navy's preparations and commitment to enhancing its capabilities in the face of growing threats in the Indian Ocean region. Through such exercises and advancements, the Navy aims to demonstrate its readiness, technological prowess, and commitment to future-proof combat readiness, promoting self-reliance (Aatma Nirbharta) in defense capabilities.
