India's Omicron Tally Climbs to 6,041; 2.68 Lakh Fresh Covid Cases

Total recoveries were at 3,49,47,390 across the country. A total of 1,22,684 patients recovered in the last 24 hours. The recovery rate is now at 94.83 per cent.

NEW DELHI: Amid the festive season, India has recorded 2,68,833 new Covid-19 infections on Saturday, 1.8 per cent higher than yesterday, according to data shared by the Union Health Ministry.

This brings the country's cumulative caseload to 3,68,50,962. Of this, 6,041 cases were of the highly transmissible Omicron variant of coronavirus.

Total recoveries were at 3,49,47,390 across the country. A total of 1,22,684 patients recovered in the last 24 hours. The recovery rate is now at 94.83 per cent.

India's active caseload stands at 14,17,820. In the last 24 hours, active cases increased by 1,45,747. The daily positivity rate stood at 16.66 per cent while the weekly positivity rate was 12.84 per cent.

Among all the states, Maharashtra reported the highest Covid-19 cases at 43,211 cases, followed by Karnataka with 28,723 cases, Delhi with 24,383 cases, Tamil Nadu with 23,459 cases and West Bengal with 22,645 cases.

In the last 24 hours, 402 people succumbed to Covid-19, increasing the total reported death count to 4,85,752. Maximum casualties were reported in Kerala (199), followed by Delhi with 34 daily deaths.

India conducted 16,13,740 tests during the previous day, according to the Health Ministry data.

A total of 58,02,976 vaccine doses were administered in the last 24 hours, which brings the total tally of doses administered to 1,56,02,51,117.

Meanwhile in Guwahati 870 new COVID cases have been detected with 5 deaths reported. Overall Positivity Percentage (2348 cases out of 30,109 test done = 7.80%). Recovery Rate at 96.44%.
