GUWAHATI: On Sunday morning, just after takeoff, an Indigo Airlines flight planned to travel from Guwahati to Dibrugarh in Assam had a technical issue, forcing it to return to Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport.

The flight, with the flight number 6E2652, took off about 8:40 in the morning and successfully returned to Guwahati in less than 20 minutes.A technical issue was found to be the root of the aircraft's return.

Rameshwar Teli, the Union Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas, and Prasanta Phukan and Terosh Gowala, two Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in power in Assam, were among those travelling on board.

According to sources, there were no problems after takeoff from Guwahati, but about 20 minutes into the flight, the pilots made the decision to return to the airport and land the aircraft at LGBI because of a technical issue.

“A Dibrugarh-bound IndiGo flight was diverted to Guwahati’s Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International after the pilot of the plane announced snag in engine of the aircraft. Over 150 passengers were travelling on the flight, including Union Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas, Rameshwar Teli and two BJP MLAs Prashant Phukan and Terash Gowala," IndiGo's statement read.

All passengers disembarked once the plane touched down safely, and the aircraft was then taken in for examination.

Airport officials acknowledged the flight's return and landing in Guwahati but did not offer any additional information about the event.

The Indigo authorities have not yet issued a formal statement addressing the technical issue.

"I was on the Indigo flight along with BJP MLAs Prashant Phukan and Terash Gowala. The flight was in the air for 15 to 20 minutes before being diverted to Dibrugarh Airport in Guwahati. We are all safe," said Rameshwar Teli, Union Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas.

Before being rerouted to the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport, the flight was in the air for 15 to 20 minutes, according to Teli.

An IndiGo aeroplane headed for Bagdogra on April 15, a Saturday afternoon, encountered technical issues and had to make an emergency landing at Delhi's IGI airport. According to IndiGo, the Delhi to Bagdogra flight 6E 6282 made a cautious return to Delhi. The aeroplane made an emergency landing, according to airport officials, because of a mechanical problem. On board were more than 200 passengers.
