New Delhi: The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) on Tuesday announced that it is all set to launch its new rocket called the Small Satellite Launch Vehicle (SSLV) from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC) on August 7 in Sriharikota. Taking to the micro-blogging site Twitter, ISRO said, ''The launch of the SSLV-D1/EOS-02 Mission is scheduled for Sunday, August 7, 2022, at 9:18 am (IST) from Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC), Sriharikota. ISRO invites citizens to the Launch View Gallery at SDSC to witness the launch. Registration is open at https://lvg.shar.gov.in/VSCREGISTRATIO.'' The space organization also invited citizens to the viewing gallery of SDSC in Sriharikota to witness the launch of the Small Satellite Launch Vehicle (SSLV-D1) Mission. ISRO has developed SSLV with an aim to put in low orbit satellites which are much in demand for applications such as earth observation ad providing internet connectivity in remote areas. The length of a Small Satellite Launch Vehicle (SSLV) is 34 meters ie 112 feet while its diameter is 6.7 feet. The total weight is 120 tons and it is much smaller in size than the PSLV rocket. Out of four stages, three stages will run on solid fuel. The fourth stage will be propelled by liquid fuel. The first stage will burn for 94.3 seconds, the second stage for 113.1 seconds, and the third stage for 106.9 seconds. SSLV was needed because small satellites have to wait for the launch of big satellites. Earlier, these small satellites were required to assemble with a space bus carrying large satellites. Besides this, internationally, small satellites are coming in large quantities and their launching market is growing so ISRO planned to make this satellite vehicle.
